What is Honor With Art?
I founded Honor With Art in order to turn a negative experience into a positive one. I experienced a near-abduction at the age of twelve, which left me with fears that I have carried with me into adulthood. This project was born from the idea that each person should take responsibility in helping keep children safe, and no matter how small the task, every little bit helps.
Why an Altered Book?
I chose the idea of the altered book because mixed-media is so popular right now, and while it might seem more "arts & crafts" than fine art, the book itself will be full of fine art from many artists worldwide. I chose a vintage record album to solve the problem of having too much art - not only can art go onto the pages, it can go inside them as well. And also, the idea of books being educational, made the altered book idea appealing to me.
Where are all these artists from and how did you find them?
I put out an online CALL TO ARTISTS through this website, EBSQ, Myspace, and several smaller online publications in October of 2006, and immediately received a huge response from people all over the world. While I know it was in everyone's hearts at the time, I have not received art from everyone - but about 3/4 of the original volunteers have done their part and sent artwork in. Go to the Contributing Artists section and click on the names of each artist to see their work. There are a few who do not have websites, but their work is equally important for this piece of art.
How can I help?
I am in need of volunteers to help find a venue for the auction, for mailings, technical writing, etc. Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org for more info, or if you have an idea on how you want to help.
